WURST Really it’s not

We got a chance to head over to WURST on afternoon.  It’s located at the corner of 4st and 25Ave SW.  There is plenty of street parking around.  Today’s first venture over to WURST was for lunch.  We got reservations and was seating at a table on the main floor.  It’s a very nice and bright restaurant, you almost feel like you’re on an outdoor patio.  The ambiance is comfortable and the atmosphere is very nice.

Besides food, WURST is pretty cool with a German pub downstairs which is a completely different atmosphere.  There are tons of cool things about WURST, check it out on their website here www.wurst.ca.

This restaurant is not a real German restaurant if that is what you are looking for.  It’s a German influenced fusion type food.  Don’t expect platters of schnitzel the size of your head.  Everything here is cooked fresh and the quality is very well thought out.  At lunch we decided to order some fresh oysters, the Braised Bison Short Ribs, House Smoked Brisket Sandwich, and Jager Schnitzel.

The oysters were nice, fresh and chilled with a few different toppings.  They were good but I wasn’t a huge fan of the toppings it came with.  The Braised Bison Short Ribs had delicious flavours, it was cooked to perfection with a rich sauce.  My wish for this dish would be served with some sort of starch because it was the perfect comfort food, rice would have been awesome with this.  The House Smoked Brisket Sandwich was another winner, I think Fuzzy even went out on the line and said it was one of the best sandwiches he’s ever had.  Lastly was the Jager Schnitzel, which was very homemade tasting.  If I had a German mother or grandmother this is how it would have tasted in my opinion this was very comfort food taste.  The portion was small, just enough for a lunch though, but not what you would expect if you think of how German food is traditionally served.  Somehow it was a bit disappointing as a dish but it still tasted good.

I’m looking forward to trying supper here and for sure drinking down in the beer hall.  It’s not a suitable place for kids although they may take children in the dining room.

  1. I ate there during stampede. To be fair they were very busy – however the service was extremely slow, the Jager Schnitzel we ordered was overdone and tough and the vegetables served with it were overcooked. Too many other great places to choose from before I would try Wurst again.
