Two Quick Pick Up and Take Home Desserts

It’s pretty cool that all these dessert places are finally popping up around Calgary.  These two reviews are the classic Crave cupcake and Cruffs cream puff.  Next place I’ll have to try is Yann Haute over in Mission.

As many of you already know, Crave Cupcakes have been around for a few years now.  If you haven’t had it before…Really?  When it comes to cupcakes, Crave really knows what they are doing.  The perfect moist cake, with the perfect density and flavour with some of the best buttercream icing around.  In my opinion, Crave has the best cupcake in Calgary and I’ve tried them all.  Crave does have a great balance of great cake and great icing.  We even had Crave Cupcake tower for our wedding, everyone loved it.  They have many locations around town now to make it easy for a quick pick up on the way home from work.

One day my mom came over with some cream puffs from Cruffs over on 4th St SW.  I’ve always wanted to go so I can compare it over my favourite Cream Puff at Beard Papa’s in Vancouver.  Cruffs makes an excellent cream puff with many different fillings.  Last time I was at Beard Papa’s they had only 3 flavours.  The cream puff shell was nice and light.  The filling was a perfect custard consistency and was not over rich or over sweet.  It definitely was a great find.

  1. We went the Cruffs after a friend told us it was good. It was horrible!! The worst pastry I ever tasted. It’s overpriced and the size is way too small.

Cream was at room temperature. Crust felt hard, by the time we got home, it was soggy. Wasted of time and money! .. not recommended at all.
