The Big Cheese Poutinerie – I love it when they call me Big Cheesy

I have been waiting for this place to open for months.  I was disappointed that I wasn’t first in line to try this place out but we managed to sneak down there on Thursday around 1pm.  I expected some form of the old Nellie’s but there are no signs of that anymore.  It’s a pretty cool little place with the perfect decor and a large menu board that is overwhelming.  I would suggest researching first online and then head down with a game plan in mind.

The two poutines we tried out were the Large Notorious P.I.G, I just had to get that because it reminded me of Biggie, well probably got it because it had Carolina Pulled Pork, Double Smoked Bacon, Italian Sausage, Cheese and gravy.  I must say it was good and very filling.  The large is absolutely massive and it’s a meal in itself.  The other poutine was the Donair one, Fuzzy said it was really tasty, his consisting of donair meat and caramelized onions, plus he threw on some hot sauce.

I wish this place was around in my bar days, this would have been an awesome late night snack, but for me it’s just a good anytime snack.  I haven’t been to Montreal to try the real deal yet, so I can’t compare it to the real stuff, but to me great fresh cut fries, cheese and awesome gravy is a winning combination.  Can’t wait to grab a poutine at The Big Cheese and head down to Charcut for an Alley Burger, now that would be a good night.

  1. I was so pumped for this place to open! I went Wednesday evening and was impressed with the decor and the set up of Big Cheese. I only had the traditional poutine; however, I was dissapointed with the amount of cheese and the fact that my fries were way under cooked.
My friend got the Notorious P.I.G. and I would definetly recommend it.
Another one of my friends went a different night and he thought the fries were way overcooked. I’m hoping soon they’ll figure out the right amount of cooking time for my next visit!

  2. Looks a lot better than it tastes, quite disappointed actually. Not a lot of cheese or gravy, and the fries are overcooked and bland.
