Jamaican Patties at Lloyd’s Patty Plus

I grew up on Jamaican Patties during my adolescent years in Toronto.  Everywhere I turned they were there, in the malls, food courts, convenience stores, and even in our high school cafeteria.  Such a great eat for so cheap.  In Toronto you can get them with Coco bread so it was like a Jamaican Patty Sandwich, so good.  It’s been so long since I’ve had it with Coco bread, but I found it at this amazing Caribbean restaurant in Vancouver called Calabash Bistro last year, so if you get a chance to get it between some fresh coco bread, DO IT!

My favourite has to be a spicy beef patty, so this is what I ordered right at Lloyd’s Patty Plus, hot, fresh, flakey and just as good as they’ve always been growing up.  Truly Lloyd’s does it right, for some reason it was the first time I went to the location to get one, by the way it’s in Short Pants Plaza (I love it when I can reference this plaza) just off of Memorial Drive and 28 St SE.  At our office parties, one of the Realtors I work with brings in cocktail size one’s from Lloyd’s, tastes just as great as the normal size ones but very addictive.

Here’s a picture of it…not a super appetizing pic but trust me it’s amazing.

  2. I grew up having Lloyd’s patties for lunch! A bunch of us would walk there from our school at lunch hour and there was always a line up out the door. YUM!

  3. If you’re craving coc bread sandwiches in Calgary, you absolutely need to go to Carribean Choice just off Center St. across from Lina’s Italian Market. Best Jamaican in the city AND they have coco bread.

    • I went on Monday, as promised. The place was closed – a note in the window said they’re now closed on Mondays. Bummer.

    • Yes they do have veggi. They’ve got chicken and beef, available in spicy or regular too. Not sure if veggi has a ‘spicy’ option though.
