Kung Hei Fat Choi Happy New Year – Forbidden City
It’s that time of year again, Chinese New Year! Year of the Dragon! Kung Hei Fat Choi! Since I’m chinese it’s a feast fest every time this great day comes around. Usually we spend Chinese New Year’s in Vancouver but this year we’ve decided to stay here. As a family we always head out at least once to have a nice big dinner, this year it was at Forbidden City in Pacific Mall in the NE. For 4 adults and my 2 little girls, my mom ordered 6 dishes. It had to be an even number of dishes (superstition), so that means, tons of food.
When Forbidden City first opened we weren’t huge fans of the restaurant but over the past year it has been excellent for dim sum and dinner meals. The quality in my opinion is getting better and better. The dishes are cook just perfect every time. For this festive meal we started off with my all time favourite soup, Crab Meat and Fish Maw soup, so delicious, if you ever try it, make sure you put a little spoonful of red vinegar in it. Next up is my all time favourite Chinese Veggie, Dou Miao (Snow Pea Stems), fried perfect with garlic. This next dish was nothing fancy, stir fried shrimp and asparagus, but let me tell you it was outstanding, the shrimp were cooked absolutely perfect and tender and the flavours where, mmm mmm mmm. Crispy Chicken was moist, flavourful and tender, the fish was fantastic and this tofu was a new dish we had not tried before, dip this in some hot sauce and you have an absolute winner! The Last dish we had is everyone’s favourite, Peking Duck. Always great from here, never disappointed and plenty to go around today.
I hope you all have a prosperous, happy and healthy new year! Happy Chinese New Year!
