Haru Sushi Bar – McKenzie Towne
I finally got a chance to eat at Haru Sushi Bar located in McKenzie Towne, which is right near New Brighton and Copperfield just off of 52nd Ave SE. I am a weekly regular at Ajisai in Cranston which is under the same ownership. Haru is a very nice casual sushi place with nice modern touches, a large sushi bar and some private booths for group settings. The service was fantastic and just how I would expect as being part of Ajisai.
As for the food, they have the regular type sushi and rolls, plus specialty rolls and lots of extras. I ordered my usual favourites to compare against other sushi places. We’ll start with the Salmon Sashimi, chilled perfect, fresh and large pieces. The prawn tempura was well coated with the panko bread crumbs and deep fried just right, crispy not greasy. The scallop gunkan is one of favourites and the unagi was delicious. I have a real love for beef tataki right now and I truly could eat a hundred of these in a sitting. For rolls, we went with two specialty ones, the first one being the Spider Roll (soft shell crab), if you like soft shell crab, you’ll love this roll. The other roll we had was the Spicy Prawn Roll (Prawn tempura, yam tempura wrapped with steamed prawn, avocado & TOBICO), which was really good and not too spicy.
If you’re in the SE looking for some great sushi and atmosphere, you’ll really enjoy Haru in McKenzie Towne.
