Dairy Lane Cafe – not just for breakfast
Dairy Lane Cafe has been around since 1950, it’s 2011 and we finally made our first visit. Dairy Lane Cafe is located in Hillhurst among a trendy street with small shops and restaurants. We’re glad that we started food blogging, it gives us a chance to try all these places in Calgary that we normally wouldn’t have the chance to venture out and try amazing places like Dairy Lane. We showed up at 11:45am on a Thursday and it was already lined up, just a small little place with few tables, but you knew if it was like this we were striking gold! We didn’t have to wait long and got the perfect table to take some great pictures of the food we ate.
Service is really good, casual, kind of like you’re a regular there. Menu looks great and judging by all the different dishes around at other tables, everything must be good. Right now we’re on a burger craze, if we see burger on a menu we eat burger. So that’s what we ordered. The two we tried were the Dairy Lane Burger with bacon, mushrooms, and gruyere cheese on an onion poppyseed bun. The other was a Spicy Chorizo Pork Burger with feta cheese. One word comes to mind for the burgers…OUTSTANDING! Honestly, with my hand on my heart, this is one of the best burgers I’ve ever had, no word of a lie. I’m not sure how I’m ever going to go back there and try something else on the menu. The burger was so flavourful, toppings were perfect, and everything built in was just right. I normally rip out the tomatoes from my burgers but this one, I left in and it just fit so well in there, but it doesn’t stop there, the fresh cut skinny fries are cooked to perfection and seasoned just perfect. It was a toss up whether to have ketchup with them, they were that good. We wish the restaurant was bigger where we can bring a big gang in to eat there, but little places like this are gems and we can’t complain.
Next time we head to Dairy Lane, we have to go for breakfast so we don’t have the option of having a burger. By the way there are tons of vegan options, plus many gluten free items, including burgers (optional). The meat in the burgers are local and conscientiously raised, free range and chemical free.
Go Go Go, have a burger there and tell us we’re not crazy! You can check out their website here www.dairylanecafe.ca.
