Fonda Latina El Super – Mexican/Columbian

Before writing this review, I just checked out some public thoughts about this Authentic Mexican/Columbian restaurant.  The reviews are not that great on Urbanspoon but word of mouth on the street is that it’s amazing.  I work in the same plaza as this restaurant and I’ve been over here a handful of times and I’ve loved it every time, each time I’ve been here has been over the lunch hour, never for dinner so I’m not sure if it’s different in the evenings. I don’t have the menu memorized, next time I head in there I’ll grab a menu and share it with all of you.  Today I had the Chicken Enchilada special which comes with a can of pop, plus I ordered an empanada and came with a side of tortilla chips and homemade salsa.  All this for $10.00.  I really enjoy their empanada’s, in my opinion, way better than Empanada Queen up in the NE.  The homemade salsa is one of my favourites and I use it on everything.  The main lunch entree arrived and what a huge portion, 3 enchilada’s, beans and rice, the food was absolutely delicious and I savoured every bite till everything was off the plate.  After I finished I wondered why I didn’t come here more often. This is some of the best authentic Mexican food I’ve had in Calgary.  Go check it out for yourself and let me know if I’m right or crazy. What’s In Front Of Me:...

Los Compadres – Part Dos

Fuzzy was the first to try Los Compadres, this is my review on this food truck.  As you’ve all read my posts previous, I’ve been super excited to hit up all these trucks and give their food a try. One beautiful Saturday, I saw a tweet that was pointing me in the direction of Deerfoot Meadows where Los Compadres will be for lunch.  I was 2nd to arrive, there ended up being a bunch of us waiting for the truck to open, so I was glad to see that people were interested in trying some fresh authentic Mexican food. I was first to order, so I wanted to try a variety of things, just to get a good idea of what I would like.  I went with the Bisteck (3 top sirloin tacos), this wasn’t my favourite out of the bunch, the way the sirloin was cooked was not something I desired, it was more like “I hate to say it” boiled meat.  I’m not sure of the authentic way of doing this but it just didn’t do it for me.  The saving grace was the sauce which was absolutely delicious.  The next up was Campechano (3 mixed dishes tacos), this was really tasty, more my style and flavours, very fresh tasting, perfect amount of cilantro and just wishing it came with a wedge of lime.  The last I one I tried is the Torta (French Baguette Sandwich with Bistek), the baguette was nice and fresh, unfortunately I had the sirloin that I didn’t enjoy on there, but funny thing was adding the sauce on there made this sandwich actually pretty tasty, I did enjoy it but will probably try the chicken next time.  The tortillas for all the tacos were excellent, great flavour and fresh feeling. Los Compadres has lots to offer, if you’re looking for Taco Time or Taco Bell, this is definitely not what you’ll be getting.  You won’t be getting loads of cheese, you will be getting a fresh, authentic style Mexican food.  I’m looking forward to trying the rest of the menu, because I really do enjoy authentic Mexican flavours.  What I really want is some delicious fish tacos.  I heard it was a special the other day.  Can’t wait for that! My First Food Truck Review

Next Thursday from 11-3 on Stephen Avenue Calgary will officially start The Food Truck Pilot Project. Calgary will be home to 7 food trucks. Fiasco Gelato Perogy Boyz Alley Burger Fries & Dolls Jojo’s BBQ Pimentos Mobile Pizzeria Los Compadres Mexican The best way to follow the trucks is on Facebook and Twitter, or you can follow YYC Food Trucks. (www.yycfoodtrucks.com or on twitter www.twitter.com/yycfoodtrucks) That’s how I found out that Los Compadres Mexican was open Thursday afternoon in a parking lot at Deerfoot Meadows. I had the Bisteck Taco’s. For $7 I got 3 soft corn tortillas filled with top sirloin steak, diced onions. They also come with cilantro, which is one of those things that people either love or hate. I opted out on the cilantro. The tacos were served with a side of pickled onions, pepper, carrots and an amazing green sauce. I have no idea of what the sauce was, but I would buy bottles of it to keep in my fridge. The food was authentic mexican food. Don’t expect the kind of cheese smothered greasy mexican food that you would find at some other mexican fast food restaurants. For my first food truck experience I was very satisfied.
