Briggs Kitchen & Bar – Best Burger Ever

I know I say this a lot about having “The Best Burger Ever” but seriously it really was.  I had the 100% chuck burger topped with Thick Bacon, Blue Cheese and a Fried Egg on their signature egg bun.  The fries where great, but on my first bite of this fantastic burger, I forgot I even had fries.  All I could do was wrap my mouth around this magnificent sandwich while pointing at my burger to gesture how great it was to my buddies.  This burger was the perfect combo of juiciness, greasiness, and flavour.   The guy behind me kept saying “It’s that the bomb!”  Next one I’ll try is with Cheddar, Thick Bacon, Avocado, and a Fried Egg, now that sounds like “Da Bomb!”                                ...

Grumans Delicatessen Brunch

Like our normal routine…where to go to eat decisions for an hour, we finally found a place that was just perfect for breakfast. Luckily they posted something on Facebook that morning because I would have never thought it would be open for breakfast. We arrived at Grumans with our grumpy of grumpiest kids but right off the bat the waitress recognizes our challenges this morning and swoops in quickly to calm our girls down and put them in excellent moods. Thank you!!! I ordered the Smoked & Poached Breakfast Poutine, which is filled with Montreal smoke meat, cheese curds, two poached eggs, home-style hashbrowns, lemon hollandaise and a side of toast for $13. This is one of the best breakfast dishes I’ve had in a long long time. It was the perfect combination, just slice the poached eggs and let the runny yolk go all over the hashbrowns  and smoked meat.  The amazing hollandaise just brings this dish to another level, mmmmmm. The rest of the table ordered the Breakfast Special, which is a large plate filled with 2 eggs, bacon or sausage, hashbrowns, and toast $9. Also we had an order of eggs benedict which looked outstanding as well $13. Can’t wait to come back!...

Dishcrawl – Exploring YYC neighborhoods one plate at a time

We were very excited to be part of great experience called DishcrawlYYC, and like the name says, a Food Crawl, yes you heard it right.  You get to experience food at 4 different restaurants all within walking distance plus drink specials!  You don’t know the meeting location until you are emailed it 48 hours prior to the event and the rest is kept a secret.  The first event that DishcrawlYYC did, SOLD OUT and the next event is a Mission Dishcrawl and only has one ticket left with her hosting this Mission community event 2 different nights.  Keep informed of the next DishcrawlYYC event by Clicking Here. For this event our first stop/meeting place was Brewsters on 11th Ave, we all know that Brewsters has an excellent selection of drinks and the special dish of the night here was a Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf, meatloaf was nice and moist and the bacon, well bacon makes every dish all that much better! The next stop was Brewster’s sister restaurant, Beer Revolution, they have an excellent Beer Board showing all the beer on tap, how old it was and the price.  The food here was an excellent thin crust pizza buffet.  If you check out their menu, I need to try the Hot Wing Pizza and Sticky Curry Wings, sounds so good.  Click here to visit their website. Beer Revolution Pizza Third up was The Rhino Killer Smokehouse, right next to and attached to District.  They have some great drinks and the food was just as good.  We got served up a Beef Brisket Slider, a Pulled Pork Slider and Deep Fried pickle, all were delicious and moist.  The menu looks great, they have tons of BBQ, a huge selection of poutine and a Bucket of Bacon if you really needed some. Last up for dessert was an ultra cool place across the street called Canvas, which is located in the Former Three Cheers on Electric Avenue, but this place resembles nothing like the good ol’ bar.  There is a restaurant on the main level, with a nice art gallery in the lower level, which can hold to some great catering functions, during this Dishcrawl we were invited down to lower level in the gallery for some amazing hand crafted desserts. Canvas Coffee and Wine Dishcrawl is doing something great for us food lovers here in Calgary, she is giving us a chance to visit some great food establishments in a fun and exciting way.  A great place to meet fellow foodies, meet the chef’s, managers, and owner’s of these local restaurants.  Stay tuned for some higher end events as well.  I...

Grumans Catering and Delicatessen

Fuzzy and I have been meeting our friend Erwin pretty much every Friday for lunch visiting great lunch spots around the city.  We were fortunate enough to visit Grumans recently.  It’s a nice looking deli with plenty of tables and street parking.  Located between Calgary Tourism and Sunterra on 11th Ave and McLeod Trail SE, opened 7 days a week 9am-3:30pm and closed on Holidays. Today we started off with the Lox Plate (capers, red onions, bagel chips $7), nice tasty treat before our meal.  Next up was the Chicken Matzo Ball Soup $6, first time for me, the matzo ball was pretty good with the soup, wish the soup was a tad hotter though, but wasn’t sure if that is how it’s suppose be served.  For my main I had the Grumans Grilled Special (all beef salami, smoked meat, stuffed chicken, rye bread, mustard with fresh cut fries $13), I actually think about this sandwich quite often, it was delicious.  Fuzzy had the Grumans Reuben (smoked meat, sauerkraut, swiss cheese, rye bread, russian dressing with fresh cut fries $13), he was quite impressed with his sandwich as well and there were no disappointments here. I saw a Smoked Meat Poutine come out while I was there, this is definitely a Must Have next time I visit Grumans, it looked so good!  Check out there menu here, Click Here. What’s In Front Of Us...

Frequently Feeding at Famoso

Frequently Feeding at Famoso

Wow since Famoso in McKenzie Towne has been opened, between Fuzzy and I, I think we hit this pizza joint at least twice a week.  Not only is it such a convenient location for us, the food is great, fresh and service is fantastic.  We find this place as a great date place, get together and a perfect family restaurant.  The excellent service starts from the top with the owner, Denis, who treats everyone like gold which then trickles down to his serving staff and cooks keeping the same great attitude. They have an excellent menu with plenty of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, drinks and of course the star of the place, Pizza!  They use the freshest ingredients and have nailed down their way of making this style of neapolitan pizza.  They also have 2-3 pizza’s change every season, this winter season has some unbelievable ones.  The Cavoletti Pizza is my favourite right now, the ingredients may sound strange but it works beautifully. (Bianca sauce, fresh mozzarella, oven-roasted Brussels sprouts, prosciutto crisps, gorgonzola cheese, dates, walnuts, and a drizzle of honey) Desserts is crazy good here, the Dolce & Banana, the Affogato (Espresso with a scoop of Fiasco Gelato, preferably Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel), and the Fiasco Gelato bar are must have’s. If you haven’t been here yet, you have to come visit Denis and the gang soon!  Check out their menu here, Click Here. What’s In Front Of Us:    ...
